Italy – March 2024

Duration: 10 days
Location: Tuscany and Maremma Region, Siena, Pisa, Florence, Volpaia and Rome

PART I – Days 1-4 : Tuscany and Maremma Region

    • Experience the natural landscape of a countryside Tenuta (an estate) in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma and the Maremma Regional Park.
    • Outings to the Maremma Regional Park: the key features of this landscape are the Uccellina mountains, a green coastal ridge dotted with romantic traces of old watchtowers, as well as a Cistercian abbey. Crashing against the rocky shores and beaches of the mountain ridge is the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the mouth of the Ombrone River cuts through surrounding plains.
    • Cooking workshop with a local chef where students will learn about the ingredients used in typical Tuscan cuisine.
    • Taste locally-made olive oil.
    • Learn basic Italian phrases with your CO (Creative Organizer).
    • Catch a soccer match.
    • Visit the local Tenuta farms and stables.
    Day 2: Arrival in Roma in the morning Private transport from the airport to Tuscany (Magliano) (2h) 3 nights in a countryside hotel in Tuscany (La Tenuta)

    PART II - Days 5-7 : Siena, Pisa and Florence and Volpaia

      • Guided visit of Siena: Piazza Del Campo, Palazzo Dei Comune, the Baptistery and the magnificent cathedral.
      • Trip to Pisa: visit the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and the adjacent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.
      • Guided visit of Florence: the Piazza del Duomo in the heart of Florence. Here you'll find the majestic Duomo, or Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its famous cupola (a dome created by the key Italian designer Brunelleschi) and its baptistery with its bronze Gates of Paradise.
      • Walk around the Piazza della Signoria, the base of Florence's political power for centuries. Here you will see the grand Palazzo Vecchio, which is the home of the municipal government as well as a museum.
      • View of Florence from the lookout point of the Piazzale Michelangelo. Enjoy a delicious cannoli with the view.
      • Free time in the San Lorenzo Market. Discover the outdoor section of the market, which runs along several streets surrounding the Mercato Centrale. Weave between the hundreds of stalls on either side of the street where vendors sell pottery, clothing, notebooks, souvenirs and various leather goods including bags, belts, wallets and jackets.
      • Explore the Chianti region: Volpaia village and visit Paola’s vineyards to discover their land and their organic products such as their wine and olive oil followed by a special dinner at the restaurant of Mama Gina.

    PART III – Days 8-10 : Rome

      • Learn about the exciting history of the Vatican City and the Papal state: St. Peter’s Basilica and the impressive St. Peter’s Square Colonnades.
      • Discover the Roman Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre built in the Roman Empire.
      • Visit the largest and most beautiful fountain in Rome: the Trevi Fountain.
      • Walk around La Piazza di Spagnia and La Piazza Navona with its famous fountains.
      • Explore the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and Piazza Venezia.
      • Learn about the Pantheon, an ancient religious building in the Piazza della Rontonda.
      • Explore the bohemian district of Trastevere and visit the Campo di Fiori square.
      • Enjoy a stunning musical and dance performance at a local theatre.

      Day 8: Departure from Florence to Rome, with stops in the Chianti region
      3 nights in a hostel in Rome
      Day 10: International flight to Montreal in the afternoon and arrival in Montreal.

      • Preps

        Travel documents

        A valid passport that expires at least 6 months after the date of your return flight back home.

        Luggage

        The least amount of luggage possible. We recommend bags that are practical and easy to carry. One large bag and a small day back-pack is ideal.

        Health

        We recommend you consult your local medical travel clinic (or doctor) a few months before leaving in order to ensure you have the necessary vaccines. Your medical insurance card might not cover costs incurred due to injuries or health costs when you are abroad. If you need to travel with medication of some kind, please bring a doctor’s prescription.

        Safety

        We recommend you bring a concealed belt that can hold your important documents, credit cards and currencies. It is illegal to take any objects found in archeological sites or any natural resources from any of the national parks, ecological reserves, protectorates or any other sites visited.

        Cancellation / Modifications By The Traveler

        In case of cancellation, the Traveller, even in cases of events outside of their control. The minimum cancellation fees are as follows:

        • a) 121 days or more prior to departure: 1st deposit
        • b) 91 to 120 days prior to departure: 50% of trip package
        • c) 46 to 90 days prior to departure:75% of trip package
        • d) 45 days or fewer prior to departure: 100% of package
      • These prices include

        • International flights from Montreal and back;
        • Alyra’s CO (Creative Organizer) accompanying the group 24/7;
        • Local transportation;
        • Domestic flight;
        • Lodging: multiple occupancy for students;
        • Lodging: single occupancy for supervisors (except by Sevilla);
        • Food: 3 meals a day (local authentic food will be served);
        • Snacks and potable water at all times;
        • Activities/visits mentioned with local guides (when mentioned);
        • Entrance tickets for museums, parks, sites, etc mentioned in the itinerary;
        • Tips to local guides, drivers, restaurants, etc.;
        • Insurance Package: Medical, Interruption and Cancelation coverage ;
        • 0.35% for the OPC (Consumer Protection Office).

      • These prices do not include

        • Visa expenses (for non-canadian passports)
        • Souvenirs/gifts you decide to buy;
        • Transportation from the school to the airport and back;
        • Laundry and any other personal expenses.
