Alyra’s team is developing an amazing expedition for a  high school that will discover the northwestern coastline and the southwest of Peru. The most important objective is to accomplish a development project in order to improve the quality of life in a hosting village in the province of Piura .

PART 1 – Day 1-2: The capital of Lima

• Visit the Parque de la Reserva and enjoy the Magic Water Circuit: Marvel at the world's largest fountain complex and the water laser and light show.

PART 2 - Day 3-14: Northwestern of Peru : Caleta de Cabo Blanco

1. Development work project  

• Our main objective is to improve the quality of life in the communities we visit and to cooperate to find the paths to make projects happen. The Alyra production team has developed a relationship with the La Caleta de Cabo Blanco local association and listened to their concerns about the realities of their community. 

• Cabo Blanco is a fishing village in northwestern Peru, 3 km northwest from El Alto, Talara, Piura. It was famous in the past among big-game fishermen and today is a noted surf break. The village takes its name from the light coloured nearby mountains.

• In the 1950s and 1960s, fishermen traveled to Cabo Blanco to hunt big marlin. Ernest Hemingway stayed more than a month at the famous "Cabo Blanco Fishing Club" and caught a 700 pound marlin while filming the motion picture based on his novel, The Old Man and the Sea. In 1953, Alfred Glassell Jr. caught the IGFA all tackle world record black marlin, weighing 1560 pounds

• Cabo Blanco is composed of 310 inhabitants approximately

• The community's main economic activity is fishing (90%)

• The closest police station is in El Alto, 10 minutes away from the community

• The closest medical center with ambulance is in El Alto, 10 minutes away from the community

• The closest clinics and the hospital is in Talara at 35 minutes away from the community

 

2. Participative Workshops

On some of the days students will be divided into groups that will follow a coordinated rotation between work and leisure time, with the goal of creating a balance between productivity and fun workshops. The objective is to give the opportunity to the students to discover the cultural life of Cabo Blanco while participating in activities with local villagers. While one of the groups is working on the volunteer project, the second group will participe in cultural workshops.
• Surf lesson: Students will experience a surf lesson in one of the best places in the world. Although, Cabo Blanco was known to the rest of the world for its fishing; late in the seventeens, Gordo Barreda, the Godfather of Peruvian surfing, stumbled upon a perfect sand-bottom lefthander. Since then, the surfing world has been collectively blowing gaskets every time this wave turns on.
• Micro marine workshop: The North Sea is considered the most biodiverse in Peru. We are facing an era where by our connection with nature and above all with the sea, is linked more to recreation and pleasure; However, if we look closely, we will find a diverse and infinite world in front of us. In this experience we will show you this world and everything that hides with singular facility in the reefs and natural pools of Los Organos.
• Play a soccer game with locals.
• Dance lesson : Tondero is a popular and folk dance from the north of Peru.
• Cooking workshop: Ceviche is a dish of raw fish and seafood marinated in citrus juice, mainly lime and lemon. The acid in the citrus juice coagulates the proteins in the fish, effectively cooking it without heated, and it’s served cold or at room temperature. “Ceviche might have originated among the Moche, a coastal civilisation that began to flourish in the area of current-day northern Peru nearly 2000 years ago. The Moche apparently used the fermented juice from the local banana passionfruit. Recent investigations further show, that during the Inca Empire, fish were marinated with the use of chicha, an Andean fermented beverage”Snorkelling with sea turtles and participate in the turtle conservation project

PART 3 – Day 15-19: Huacachina and Paracas

•  Huacachina is known as the “Oasis of America”.It is one of the only true desert oases in the Americas. A lush island in a sea of sand, its watery pool ripples in shades of blue and green, completely encompassed by the brutal environment around it. Also, It has the Largest sand dunes in South America and it is home of the best Dune Buggy and Sandboarding Tours in South America.
• Experience the buggy, sandboarding and camping in the middle of the desert.
• Excursion to Paracas National Reserve, a protected natural area known for its wealth of marine wildlife and dramatic shoreline of wind and wave sculpted rock formations.
• Boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands, an archipelago rich in wildlife. The islands are riddled with arches, tunnels and other wind and sea sculptures where sea lions, seals, Humboldt penguins and turtles converge with dozens of birds, among them albatross, pelicans and various seagulls. On a boat trip we will circle the islands to visit the diverse marine life (disembarking is prohibited to protect the wildlife).

• Preps

  Travel documents

  A valid passport that expires at least 6 months after the date of your return flight back home.

  Luggage

  The least amount of luggage possible. We recommend bags that are practical and easy to carry. One large bag and a small day back-pack is ideal.

  Health

  We recommend you consult your local medical travel clinic (or doctor) a few months before leaving in order to ensure you have the necessary vaccines. Your medical insurance card might not cover costs incurred due to injuries or health costs when you are abroad. If you need to travel with medication of some kind, please bring a doctor’s prescription.

  Safety

  We recommend you bring a concealed belt that can hold your important documents, credit cards and currencies. It is illegal to take any objects found in archeological sites or any natural resources from any of the national parks, ecological reserves, protectorates or any other sites visited.
