Spain – April 2023

Duration: 11 days
Location: Barcelona, Alpujarras , Sierra Nevada,Granada and Sevilla


PART I – Days 1-3 : Barcelona

    • Guided visit through the Sagrada Familia, a monumental work by Antoni Gaudi, a true symbol forf the city of Barcelona.

    • Guided visit through Gaudi's beautiful Güell Park, an urban park made up of gardens and Gaudi's signature architectural style. Truly a place nature and architecture come together.

    • Enjoy a stroll along Barcelona's famous streets: The Passeig de Gracia and La Rambla. During a visit to the Boqueria Market, the most iconic market in Barcelona, your CO Alyra will teach you some “delicious” Spanish words.

    Overnight flight to Barcelona. 2 nights in a hostel in Barcelona.

    PART II - Days 4-7 : Alpujarras and Sierra Nevada

      • Discover the charming whitewashed villages of the Alpujarras including local craftsmanship and food.
      • Take part in the daily activities on an eco-farm life activities and experience the traditions of the local Alpujarreno lifestyle.
      • Hike from the picturesque village of Pampaneira to Capileira, all while taking in the breathtaking landscapes.
      • Take part in a “Paella” workshop
      • Lodging in a Eco-lodge: a traditional group of homesteads and farm buildings that have been transformed into an Eco-lodge, situated on the southern flank of the Sierra Nevada mountains on a rise above the Guadalfeo River, which enjoys panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada National Park. The owners are committed to developing and maintaining the traditions of the local Alpujarreño culture, renowned for its unique architecture, food, farming and production methods. We will experience visits to its vineyards, Bodega, organic garden and workshops detailing the local olive oil production process.

     
    Day 4: Train from Barcelona to Granada (6h25 min).
    Day 4: Transportation by private bus from Granada to Alpujarras (2h).
    Day 7: Transportation by private bus from Lanjaron (Alpujarras) to Granada (1h).
    3 nights in an eco-lodge in Alpujarras.

    PART III – Day 8 : Granada

      • Discover the fascinating history of Granada: Visit the Alhambra and Generalife palaces, the ancient Arab and Moroccan quarters.
      • Visit the “Museo de las Cuevas”: In this interactive museum you will learn about the cave houses of Granada as well as the rich culture and lifestyle of the Gypsies.
      • Visit the Sacromonte quarter. Sacromonte was the traditional neighbourhood of the Gitano people in Granada, becoming the official Gitano province in the 19th century. Many of the region’s poorer residents dug cave residences into the slopes of Sacromonte’s hills, which are made up a soil containing enough clay in it to make it soft but stable when formed. The community, with it's flamenco culture, thrived in the area until the 1960s when floods rendered many of the caves uninhabitable and many of the locals were evacuated.
      • Experience a flamenco class at “Escuela Internacional de Flamenco Manolete”, one of the most renowned flamenco dance schools in Spain.
      2 nights in a hostel in Granada (arrival on the night of the day 7).

      PART IV - Days 9-11 : Sevilla and Barcelona

        • Enjoy a picnic in Maria Luisa Park, an oasis of peace in Sevilla. Explore the Plaza Espana, a square adjacent to Maria Luisa Park which was built for the Ibero-American exhibition of 1929. Visit the Museo del Baile Flamenco and learn about the art of flamenco dancing. Attend a Flamenco show performed by some of Seville’s most renowned flamenco artists. Go kayaking along the Guadalquivir, the only navigable river in Spain, where you’ll be able to take in the beautiful sights of the city.

      Transportation by private bus from Granada to Sevilla (3h).
      1 night in a hostel in Sevilla.
      Day 10 : domestic flight to Barcelona.
      1 night in Barcelona.
      Day 11: Departure from Barcelona to Montreal and arrival in Montreal.

      • Preps

        Travel documents

        A valid passport that expires at least 6 months after the date of your return flight back home.

        Luggage

        The least amount of luggage possible. We recommend bags that are practical and easy to carry. One large bag and a small day back-pack is ideal.

        Health

        We recommend you consult your local medical travel clinic (or doctor) a few months before leaving in order to ensure you have the necessary vaccines. Your medical insurance card might not cover costs incurred due to injuries or health costs when you are abroad. If you need to travel with medication of some kind, please bring a doctor’s prescription.

        Safety

        We recommend you bring a concealed belt that can hold your important documents, credit cards and currencies. It is illegal to take any objects found in archeological sites or any natural resources from any of the national parks, ecological reserves, protectorates or any other sites visited.

        Cancellation / Modifications By The Traveler

        In case of cancellation, the Traveller, even in cases of events outside of their control. The minimum cancellation fees are as follows:

        a) 121 days or more prior to departure: 1st deposit of 1500$

        b) 91 to 120 days prior to departure: 50% of trip package

        c) 46 to 90 days prior to departure:75% of trip package

        d) 45 days or fewer prior to departure: 100% of package

      • These prices include

        • International flights from Montreal and back;
        • Alyra’s CO (Creative Organizer) accompanying the group 24/7;
        • Local transportation;
        • Domestic flight;
        • Lodging: multiple occupancy for students;
        • Lodging: single occupancy for supervisors (except by Sevilla);
        • Food: 3 meals a day (local authentic food will be served);
        • Snacks and potable water at all times;
        • Activities/visits mentioned with local guides (when mentioned);
        • Entrance tickets for museums, parks, sites, etc mentioned in the itinerary;
        • Tips to local guides, drivers, restaurants, etc.;
        • Insurance Package: Medical, Interruption and Cancelation coverage ;
        • 0.35% for the OPC (Consumer Protection Office).

      • These prices do not include

        • Visa expenses (for non-canadian passports)
        • Souvenirs/gifts you decide to buy;
        • Transportation from the school to the airport and back;
        • Laundry and any other personal expenses.
